St. Joseph’s Health Welcomes Michael Waterhouse, DO, to Anesthesiology and Critical Care Team
September 15, 2026
SYRACUSE, N.Y.— St. Joseph’s Health is pleased to announce that Michael Waterhouse, DO, is joining its team of anesthesiologists. He is an experienced board-certified anesthesiologist and is a strong addition to our advanced team that delivers exceptional care to patients throughout Central New York.
“I pursued anesthesia because of my love for pharmacology and physiology, and seeing its effects in real time,” said Dr. Waterhouse. “On a human level, I thoroughly enjoy guiding people through a potentially stressful day to make it as simple, painless, and as seamless as possible. Seeing patients smile as they get discharged from the PACU is extremely gratifying.”
Dr. Waterhouse received his Doctor of Osteopathy from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York, graduating in the top 10% of his class, and completed his Anesthesia residency and internship at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychobiology (with a Chemistry minor) from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania where he was the Varsity Baseball team captain and received several student-athlete academic achievement awards. He later returned to Swarthmore to volunteer for one season as assistant coach of the baseball team.
Dr. Waterhouse comes to Syracuse from Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh.
Outside of clinical work, Dr. Waterhouse enjoys participating in sports, watching movies, playing video games, and especially spending time with his family.
“I am happily married and have three beautiful little girls, including twins,” he said. We’re excited for all the opportunities that Central New York has in store for us.”
