Residential Services Program

The Residential Services Program offers two levels of care which provide structured and supportive environments for patients with psychiatric disabilities, 18 years of age and older. The primary goal of both the supervised community residence program and intensive supportive apartments is to ensure that those in need will receive the support and services necessary to maintain the most appropriate level of independent living possible.

A full range of rehabilitative services are offered, such as: assertiveness/self advocacy training; community integration/resource development; daily living skills training; health services; medication management training; parenting training; rehabilitation counseling; skill development services; socialization; substance abuse services; and symptom management. The program is transitional; the average length of stay is one year.

Referrals to the program are taken from OMH Community Referral Source. The consumer is then evaluated by the residential team in order to assess his or her ability to benefit from the structure of the program and to clarify the consumer’s expectations and service needs. A psychiatrist must confirm that the individual is in need of restorative services prior to placement. Consumers are expected to continue with psychiatric treatment and participate in some structured activity throughout their stay.

Staffing patterns are based upon consumers’ needs. The supervised residences have 24-hour, on-site coverage. The intensive supportive apartments offer staff that visit consumers on an as needed basis. Staff is available 24 hours per day/7 days per week for emergencies via the community residence line.
