St. Joseph’s Health Announces New Chief Medical Officer, Acute Care

SYRACUSE, N.Y.— St. Joseph’s Health is proud to welcome Amine Hila, MD, as Chief Medical Officer, Acute Care. He will also serve as Chief Clinical Officer for St. Joseph’s Health and St. Peter’s Health Partners. Dr. Hila assumed responsibilities from Dr. Michael Trevisani, who served in these roles on an interim basis since January 2024.

Dr. Hila will lead the Acute Care medical and clinical teams at St. Joseph’s Health and play a key role in the implementation of strategic and operating plans, as well as service line development.

Dr. Hila brings to the roles extensive clinical and leadership experience, most recently serving as Associate Chief Medical Officer, Vice President of Medical and Academic Affairs at United Health Services Hospitals in Binghamton, NY. UHS is a regional health system with four hospitals; it is a major teaching affiliate of the Clinical Campus at Binghamton of SUNY Upstate Medical University. During his 18-year tenure as UHSH, Dr. Hila served in several roles including Vice President of Academic Affairs and Physician Engagement; Director, Department of Medicine; Director, Office of Clinical Trials and Research and Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) for Graduate Medical Education. Dr Hila also practiced Gastroenterology for 18 years in Binghamton.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, Dr. Hila attended medical school at Faculté de Médecine de Tunis in Tunis, Tunisia. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at The Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, and a combined clinical and research fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical University of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC.

St. Joseph’s Health would like to acknowledge the leadership and expertise Dr. Trevisani brought as interim CMO and CCO. Dr. Trevisani led efforts to successfully improve Leapfrog scores and patient throughput, especially in the emergency department. He aided in the transition of his roles to Dr. Hila during the month of December.

As Dr. Hila focuses on Acute Care, Robert Carlin, M.D., continues to serve as Chief Medical Officer for Ambulatory Services. He assumed that role in August 2024.
